Welcome back to another interview! I got a chance to talk with Anna Grace Durham, a good friend of mine. She actually recently published another book--From Peasant to Princess.
What genre do you write?
I write mostly historical fiction along with some fantasy.
What’s your favorite book/genre? Why?
Besides the Bible, my favorite book is probably The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen, and my favorite book genre is either fantasy or historical fiction! Fantasy is so fun and thrilling to read, and historical fiction really interests me because I love to know about how people lived in the past.
Who is your favorite author? / Who do you look up to?
Jennifer A. Nielsen is my all-time favorite author. She writes historical fiction and fantasy stories, and I absolutely love her writing style. Her stories are so thought-provoking, and they are so fun to read with all of the exciting plot twists she uses!
When did you start writing/when did you start writing seriously?
I wrote my first stories when I was about six years old. I continued writing short stories for several years after that, until I was nine. At that point, I began to wonder if I could make something more than just a fun hobby out of my writing. That’s when I started publishing books!
Do you have a blog/email list/where can people contact you if they are interested?
Yes!! I have an email list newsletter that I send out every other week. You can sign up for it at this link: https://anna-grace-durham-author.ck.page/subscribe
Where do you hope to go with your writing/platform?
Over the next few years, I hope I can continue to grow my platform and writing so that I can share my stories with the world! I hope my message can one day reach as many people as possible.
What is your (life/writing) mission? / Why do you write?
My ultimate goal in writing is to give glory to God! And by sharing my stories with others, I hope that I can bring them to Him and teach them about everything He has done for us.
Do you have any books published? What are they about?
Yes! So far, I have published five books. Four of them are historical fiction stories, and I have one fantasy novel! You can find them on Amazon.com.
What’s your favorite part of the writing journey?
That would be when I reach the climax of whatever story I’m writing. In truth, I love the whole process, but when I near the end and the action picks up, it’s really fun for me to write.
What are your favorite resources?
My favorite book about writing that I own is called Writer’s Express: A Handbook for Young Writers, Thinkers, and Learners. That book has everything, and it has helped me so much over the years! Also, I love all of the resources from The Young Writer’s Workshop, where I am a student. Their lessons are all soooo helpful!
What is your greatest advice to teens/young writers?
You don’t have to be perfect! Don’t ever think that you’re not good enough, and don’t try to compare yourself to other people. Everyone is different, and that’s not a bad thing!! Don’t try to be anyone else but you—because you are good enough, and your message matters.
Plotter, Pantser or Plantser?
Plotter, for sure. When I was younger, I was always a pantser, but that made my story lines a little… messy. So over the years, I have forced myself to plot, even though it is against my instincts. I would say that I am a pantser who forced herself to become a plotter.
Beaches or Mountains?
Mountains!! Now, don’t get me wrong; the beach is amazing, too. But I just love the mountains—so majestic and peaceful. And the views are stunning!!
