What genre do you write?

I mainly write fantasy and dystopian, but I love branching out and trying other genres!

What’s your favorite book/genre?

My favorite book is probably the Once Upon A Time series by James Riley or The Green Ember by S.D. Smith. My favorite genre is fantasy or post-apocalyptic.

Why?

I really like Once Upon A Time because I can really relate to the main character, Jack. And it’s also a type of fairytale retelling and I enjoy those! I really like the messages in The Green Ember and just the overall idea of the book. It’s really encouraging to me! I like fantasy because it’s in a way limitless. You can really do whatever in that and I feel like the possibilities are endless for a fantasy book. I like post-apocalyptic because I think it’s really cool to see how the world might work or look like in the future if some big thing happens and it’s really interesting to see how the characters grow and learn in the new environment.

Who is your favorite author?

I like so many! But some of my favorites are Andrew Peterson, S.D. Smith, Sara Ella, and James Riley.

Who do you look up to?

Kara Swanson. I love her books and her writing style and how she shows hard truths in her books and challenges people through fiction writing.

When did you start writing? / When did you start writing seriously?

I started making up stories when I was really little, probably around six years old. I started writing down those stories when I was nine and I wrote off and on for several years until about a year ago when I started writing seriously.

Do you have a blog/email list/ Where can people contact you if they are interested?

I do have a blog! It’s called Random Ramblings and I focus on helping other young writers. I don’t have many posts up yet, but I’m really working on improving my nonfiction writing.

Where do you hope to go with your writing/platform?

For my writing, I want to show people that they aren’t alone by giving them characters who struggle with real life issues. I want to give people hope, but also challenge them to live for God. For my platform, I want to help other young writers who aren’t sure if this is something that they can’t do! I’m a pantser, so I don’t outline, and I want to help others discover their own writing process and not just follow what everyone else is doing.

What is your life/writing mission?

My mission is to give people hope through my writing, I want them to know that God is always with them, no matter what, and that even the worst mistakes are nothing compared to God’s love.

Why do you write?

I write because I love doing it! It’s a way to process my thoughts and also share my experiences with others through fiction. I believe that God has given me this passion for writing, and I want to honor and glorify Him through my words.

Do you have any books published?

Not yet! I’ve written one full length novel, but it needs a lot of work before it’s publishing ready.

What are your favorite resources?

YWW, The Young Writers Workshop. It’s helped so much. I can see how much I’ve grown from the guidance I’ve received from YWW. And Youtube is very helpful XD

What is your greatest advice to teens/young writers?

Don’t just follow, be a leader. Step out of your comfort zone and do hard things like pursuing your dreams. Because in the end it will be worth it.

Plotter, Pantser, or Plantser?

Definitely Pantser! I don’t plan out my characters or the setting or anything, I learn about the world and the characters as I go, and I feel like it gives me a deeper understanding of the story.

Beaches or mountains?

Mountains! I grow up not too far from the Rookie Mountains and I’ll tell you, there’s nothing like a sunrise or sunset in the mountains, it’s beautiful.
